GUNNS CAMP
Okavango Delta
Take to the water and the deeper wilderness
Overlooking the legendary Chiefs Island and bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Gunn's Camp is one of the last few remaining luxury, vintage safari camps. Set under leafy palms and African Ebony to blend naturally with its unique surroundings, Gunn's Camp achieves a fine balance of comfort without isolating guests from the sights and sounds of the wilderness.
On arrival at the private airstrip on Ntswi Island, deep in the delta, you will be met by welcoming hosts and shown to Gunn's Camp. The accommodation area is connected to the main camp via raised wooden walkway crossing the wetlands and magically lit by a series of fairylike lanterns. Guests have access to the elevated bar, lounge and dining room, campfire boma and swimming pool. The top deck boasts a large bar and with magnificent views overlooking Chief’s Island. The dining deck is on two separate levels, and the swimming pool is available for guests to escape the hot African sun.
The flagship accommodation offered at Gunn's Camp consists of 6 fully furnished, deluxe Meru tents with en-suite bathrooms featuring standalone baths and outside private showers. Set on raised platforms overlooking the delta plains Gunn's Camp is ideal for honeymooners or guests looking for a more intimate and personalized safari experience. All 6 tents are discretely set within the densely treed island ensuring privacy and tranquility. Each has been traditionally furnished with an eclectic mixture of solid wood and African furniture and offers a lounge area as well as private veranda.
Become part of the bustling river life by easing between the papyrus clad banks on traditional 'mokoro' canoes. These are propelled from the stern by skilled 'poler' guides, allowing the guests to sit back and absorb the scenery. For full day trips, Gunn's Camp prepares delicious picnic lunches which can be enjoyed on a Delta island after an exhilarating bush walk. Explore the wilderness on foot under the guidance and education of your own personal guide. Feel your senses ignite as you become part of life in the bush and encounter game without the parameters of a vehicle.
Island Camping - The camp managers will pack your mokoro with basic camping equipment and food so that you can set out with your own personal guide to find an island where you will set up camp. The evening will be spent preparing dinner around the campfire in the company of Africa's nocturnal wildlife. This rustic experience is subject to availability, and must be pre-booked in advance.
A great way to explore the crystal clear channels of the Boro River. Motor-boat cruises are organised in time to toast the unprecedented African sunsets while drifting on a lagoon in the middle of the Okavango Delta. Watch as the mutating colours are reflected in the smooth waters, disturbed only by dipping swallows or curious hippos.
